Review by Bernard Pretorius

The Heart of Invention by Haydn, Trio Goya is a beautiful album that showcases the talents of this ensemble. The trio consists of fortepiano player Maggie Cole, cellist Sebastian Comberti, and violinist Kati Debretzeni. Together, they bring Haydn's music to life with their impeccable musicianship and attention to detail.

The album features a selection of Haydn's trios, including the Piano Trio No. 44 in E Major, Hob. XV:28 and the Piano Trio No. 42 in E-flat Major, Hob. XV:30. The performances are nuanced and expressive, with each musician bringing their own unique interpretation to the music.

One standout track on the album is the Piano Trio No. 32 in A Major, Hob. XV:18. The trio's performance is full of energy and passion, with each player contributing to the overall dynamic of the piece. The final movement, in particular, is a tour de force of virtuosity and musicality.

About Haydn, Trio Goya

Born: 1732-03-31 (Rohrau, Austria) Born 31 march or 1st April, 1732. Died: 1809-09-05 (Vienna, Austria). Franz Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer of the Classical period. He brings the "sonata form" to a very high degree of improvement. His symphonies and his string quartets (forms of which he is considered "the father") have become highly inspirational style models. Haydn made a fundamental contribution to the development of chamber music; thanks to the numerous quartets, trios for piano, for strings and also with the unusual trios for baryton, viola and cello.
