Black Crucifixion - Hope Of Retaliation

Review by Peter Stewart

Black Crucifixion's latest album, Hope of Retaliation, is a dark and intense journey through the realms of black metal. The album features a combination of traditional black metal elements, such as blast beats and tremolo picking, with more atmospheric and experimental touches.

The opening track, "Savior", sets the tone for the rest of the album with its haunting melodies and aggressive vocals. The album continues with tracks like "The Fallen One", which showcases the band's ability to create a sense of foreboding and despair.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Ladder to the Moon", which features a more melodic and atmospheric sound. The song builds to a climax with a soaring guitar solo that is both beautiful and haunting.

Summary by Peter Stewart

Hope of Retaliation is a strong addition to Black Crucifixion's discography. The band has managed to create an album that is both heavy and atmospheric, with a sound that will appeal to fans of traditional black metal as well as those who are looking for something a bit more experimental.

Comments

The band's 2011 album, Hope of Retaliation, features some blast-beat tracks assimilable to Necrophobic, Gorgoroth and Darkthrone ("Retalitation", "Blood Soaked Snow") and more trebly production, but for the rest doesn't sound much different from their debut, including goofy rhythms, slurred minor-key harmonies and usual citatons from 90's Gothic/Doom MetaL ("Bitten by the Long Frosts of Life"). Also, the shortest tracks feel like the lowest common Extreme Metal denominator, and further penalized an already hardly stellar album.Highlights: "Retalitation".
