Review by Brad Thomas

Pig Destroyer's self-titled album is a ferocious display of grindcore mastery. The band's signature blend of blistering speed, gut-wrenching vocals, and punishing riffs is on full display throughout the album's 22 tracks. From the opening salvo of "Jennifer" to the closing blast of "Hawg Jaw," Pig Destroyer delivers a relentless assault of sonic violence that will leave fans of extreme metal breathless.

The band's musicianship is top-notch, with guitarist Scott Hull leading the charge with his lightning-fast riffing and intricate song structures. Vocalist J.R. Hayes delivers his trademark growls and screams with raw intensity, while drummer Brian Harvey provides a thunderous backbone for the band's sonic onslaught.

Despite the album's unrelenting brutality, there are moments of surprising nuance and complexity. Tracks like "Cheerleader Corpses" and "Crippled Horses" showcase the band's ability to shift seamlessly between different tempos and moods, while still maintaining their trademark intensity.

Grindcore band formed in 1997 in Alexandria, Virginia. In 1997, vocalist J.R. Hayes, guitarist Scott Hull and drummer John Evans formed the band Pig Destroyer (previously known as Cop Destroyer). As soon as the band formed, they started rehearsing. It didn't take long before the trio released a self-titled demo, and participated on a split with Orchid. In 1998, Pig Destroyer toured the East Coast with other bands, including Drop Dead, Converge, Kid Dynamite, and Isis. Later that year they parted ways with drummer John Evans, who was then replaced by Brian Harvey. They also started to play more shows and released an album, "Explosions in Ward 6," which brought them out of the underground to be known as one of the better Grindcore bands. The band continued to tour with bands like Discordance Axis, Phobia, Daybreak, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Disassociate. They also played at the 2000 March Metal Meltdown. In July 2000, the band signed with Relapse, and recorded a split 7" with Isis. It sold out in a month. They later recorded and released "38 Counts Of Battery," which included the remastered "Explosions In Ward 6" album, tracks from the Isis and Orchid splits and their demo from 1997. In 2001, they released "Prowler in the yard" which is the most extreme album they've made to date. The album got them even more fame, and the band is now of the leading Grindcore bands. In 2004 they released the compilation album, "Painter of Dead Girls."

Top ! Kroezel
personally my favorite era of pig destroyer. their later stuff is still good but nowhere near as good as this.
edit: jr hayes' vocals are fucking insane on this
This and their split with Orchid was their only decent shit. Turned into poser nu metal grind afterwards.
Production / guitar tone / drums (pretty much everything) honestly sounds better than Explosions in Ward 6
Tökéletes...
I absolutely love some of the song names Pig Destroyer has come out with over the years. The name Dark Satellites sounds sick just like the song itself
Flag Burner sounds like it was later slowed down and turned into Terrifyer.
Holy shit this is raw
