A Yale man obviously
The kings of DC ! Saw them many times - the Psyche Deli/ The Bayou/ 9:30 club. Best was at the Smoke In at the Mall sporting a 7-11 smock. Rest in Peace Root Boy
There is (or was actually, it's been years since i've been there) a local record store on Georgia Avenue past Silver Spring that had a Root Boy Slim's shrine. It had teddy bears, flyers, LPs, ticket stubs and, among other things, a hypodermic needle. lol! It always amazed me that an Ivy League school individual just did not care about all that and said "fuck it. I'm making music". RIP, you wild animal!
I saw Root Boy at the Stardust in Waldorf Maryland and it was amazing.. I happened upon a copy of one of his albums years later in Atlanta Ga , my roommate loaned it to a friend , and I never got it back . You remember those roommates that are so giving , except that they don't have anything of their own .. Anyway , I can't find a recording anywhere of Sex And Drugs And Rock And Roll .
Holy shit! Awesome!
What was wrong with him. Dope no doubt.
Looks like Beefheart
Shades of J Geils
Root Boy Slim wins YouTube
There is no greater philosophy. It anticipated Spinal Tap's drummer's, " Have a good time, all the time."
Mr. Mike's Mondo Video! ❤️
Rootboy Slim looks like Dave grohl meets meatloaf
Shot at the Cordial Bar and Restaurant - 1699 Broadway, NYC - right under the Ed Sullivan Theater marquee. RIP, Slim.
Always put on a show
RIP Mr. Mike & Root Boy Slim
some fun times. Saw him in Bmore and Pasadena Maryland. He was walking on the bar telling everybody they were pieces of sh*t mumbling.lol. He did the Gator on the floor...
Ha! Ha! Look at that swinging gate jaw. What an iconic character. Last saw Root at the Jade Elephant in Richmond in the early '90s. Root was his usual great and wild self. He was super drunk and forgot about his lit cigarette a few times which created a few short-lived fire hazards. All my DC buds from that era love RBS and when I visit them, we often locate old Root cassettes and just laugh and shake our heads. Thanks Root!
I saw Root Boy Slim at the Grog and Tankard in DC back in the day. One of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. Still remember it like it was yesterday. Great entertainer! Sorry he had to go to the great gig in the sky.
You knew your were really wasted if you got down on the floor and did The Gator. You might have to sleep in your car. LMAO.
They were my drug habit back in the day. DAMMIT MY WIG FELL OFF. Hand my toepae back to me.
I got to party with him once had a concert on the warf awesome and got f up after with him and his drummer not the guy in this video
I lived in Silver Spring and Gaithersburg then, and somehow I missed him. Damn...
"Let's really Zoom" -- great idea for your next online business meeting. BTW, does Root Boy look like Hugo Weaving's long-lost twin brother?
Root was from a very rich Ashville, NC family and went to Harvard. He was kicked out of the Harvard fraternity by George Bush. Root was one of a kind and is very missed. His shows were like no other. Followed him back in the late 70s.
