Necronomicon - Tips Zum Selbstmord

Review by Antonio Arles

Tips Zum Selbstmord by Necronomicon is an intense and powerful album that showcases the band's talent for creating dark and atmospheric metal music. The album features a variety of tracks that blend elements of black metal, death metal, and gothic rock, creating a unique and haunting sound that is both chilling and captivating.

The album's production is top-notch, with each instrument and vocal line given ample space to shine. The guitars are particularly impressive, with intricate riffs and solos that add depth and complexity to the songs. The drums and bass provide a solid foundation for the music, driving the songs forward with relentless energy.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Die Toteninsel", which features haunting piano melodies and atmospheric synths that create a sense of foreboding and despair. The vocals on this track are also particularly impressive, with the singer's deep growls and screams perfectly complementing the dark and brooding music.

Comments

One of the better obscurities from Rock's golden age, German band Necronomicon came up with one of the more interesting debuts of the genre. Eclectic and over the top, this loud and all over the place mishmash of operatic vocals, Prog complexity, experimental Krautrock and in your face Hard Rock is quite the listen. The 2004 reissue includes bonus tracks that further highlight the band's stentorian jams. Although the songwriting doesn't quite get there the tracks are worth the spin. One that any Rock fan won't mind delving into, "Tips zum Selbstmord" shows that Germany was an interesting place in the early 1970s.
