Review by Kristine Kline

Loudon Wainwright III's self-titled album is a true masterpiece of folk music. The album is a collection of his best works, showcasing his unique style and skillful songwriting. Loudon's voice is raw and emotional, delivering each song with a sense of urgency and conviction.

The album opens with the track "School Days," a nostalgic look back at the trials and tribulations of youth. The lyrics are witty and insightful, capturing the essence of growing up in a way that only Loudon can. The album continues with "Dead Skunk," a humorous take on roadkill that has become a classic in its own right.

Throughout the album, Loudon tackles a variety of topics, from love and heartbreak to politics and social issues. Each song is crafted with care, and the instrumentation is simple and effective, allowing the lyrics to take center stage.

Comments

Just back from the fringe in embra...train from Waverley to Reston...got the pangram on the NYT spelling bee...it was "midtown"...made me think of this song which I first heard about 50 years ago..."downtown is where it's at"...
What a great discovery, excellent song !
Total talent open tuned in e key. Wonderful.
Eat your heart out Joan Baez!
De Profundis.
Can't understand why there's no traffic here. This came out a little late, but it's definitely 60s. Really a classic for our generation.
Thanks for posting.
A song I have known for 50 years and it still sends a shiver through me whenever I hear it. It is a sad song, but life can be sad at times.
Loudon Wainwright's Atlantic lps are so much darker than what he would do later. George Gerde influence, perhaps.
Always difficult to listen to but I agree one of his best. Has lost none of its impact over the years.
I swear that no one has the rhythm or the timing of London Wainwright.
One of his best songs.
Mercurial.
