- About Me: While Rick Minard works primarily in an abstract expressionist style, he is most recognized for his unique woven paintings. Overall, his works are explorations of color, texture, shape and form. Currently Rick is focusing on the simulation of depth created by shifts in hue, tone and the configuration of patterns. Over the years his work has been accepted into numerous juried shows, winning awards such as Best of Show and People’s Choice. He has exhibited his work in Lancaster Pennsylvania as well as Chautauqua, Rochester and Buffalo, New York. Born and raised in Northwestern Pennsylvania, Rick currently lives in Shinglehouse, PA, with his wife and son. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from Clarion University. In 2010 he received his Master of Fine Arts Degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. While he has always maintained a private fine art studio in his home, he also worked full time as a graphic designer for ten years. In 2006, he came upon the opportunity to teach in the evening at an area creative arts center, which renewed his interest in teaching. He went on to teach some adult education courses at a local community college and then decided to pursue his graduate degree. Since earning his MFA he taught for two years at the University of Pittsburgh as the Visiting Professor of Art.
