came here from kiibogonta fanfic, and this is a bop ngl.
My all-time favourite, and highly soulful, version of this great classic. According to old Blue Note Record liner notes, Bechet went on to record it the same day he found his friend and colleague, trumpeter Tommy Ladnier dead on his own doorstep when he stopped by to collect Ladnier for this recording session. Maybe this accounts for the distinctly lamenting blues feel about this recording.
