Review by Andres Lopez Gomez

Gravy Waltz, the album by Steve Allen, is a delightful collection of jazz tunes that showcase Allen's talents as a pianist and composer. The album features a mix of original compositions and covers of classic jazz standards, all with Allen's signature style and flair.

One standout track is the album's title track, "Gravy Waltz," which was a hit for Allen in the 1960s. The song is a playful and infectious tune that will have listeners tapping their toes and humming along in no time.

Another standout track is "The Continental," a classic jazz standard that Allen gives a fresh and lively interpretation. His piano playing is masterful, and he is backed by a talented group of musicians who bring their own unique style and energy to the music.

Comments

Steve Allen - was my "friend!" I've promised several I'll tell the tale - just need to finish it. I think he was an amazingly talented fellow.
Thanks for sharing this nice music too!
Am not here to rain on the Steve Allen parade because I agree with most of the other comments. But Allen loathed the advent of rock and roll.
Made Elvis sing Hound Dog to an actual hound dog (without informing Presley before introducing him) on his Sunday night variety show. Presley was humiliated and never forgave Allen.
Allen, along with comedian Stan Freberg and Perry Como among others, saw themselves as the “gatekeepers” of “proper music” and took every opportunity early on to denigrate and mock the new
sound and it’s artists.
Boot up the Old Payola Roll Blues (pts 1&2) by Freberg and Jesse White (the old Maytag Repair Man on early TV commercials) to hear how they mocked the music while also doing their schtick to sell records.
Again. Allen did a lot of good things in early television.
But he was dead wrong on rock and roll and I don’t recall him backtracking on it
as it came to dominate the radio air waves.
Terry Farmer
Steve Allen was such a multi talented personality. Comedian, musician. actor and the father of the late night Tonight shows.
SMOCK SMOCK !
Wow, this brings back memories...remember this song played as an intro to one of Steve Allen's shows...God we miss bright men like him so very much now in our society and yes Ray Brown composed the music and Allen wrote the lyrics...
First record I ever purchased. Still have it. Played many times. Still wonderful.
Reminds me of those David Seville instrumentals.
what a great song
maybe Steve's greatest hit! Unforgettable... ^..^
And don't you know that god is pooh bear!
