I was a year out of high school when this came out. I was all of 18 and casually dating a Junior A defenseman. I also started my first job at United Aircraft earlier the same year.
Thanks rpmcanada1971 for posting this! This was our best known tune, along with "Rock and Roll Business". I had the good fortune to write both songs for the band while I was still in my teens. Ah youth!
I have the other original 1971 Much Records 45(Much CH 1008) version which rocks more than this one. I like my version better than the Plum version. https://www.discogs.com/Sea-Dog-Its-A-Hot-Night/release/5847682
I remember this song when I was 13 years old. Listening to it then, it sounded like Keith Partridge listening to the gorgeous blonde singing perfectly, but listening to it now, it sounds like what she really sounded like! Still, I can still hear it with Keith Partridge ears if I try. :D
Actually Sweet Plum was a secondary label owned by MUCH Records . MUCH had another label called Much International and briefly Fleur which released material in French. MUCH also released a few singles in French. The label was around from 1970 until 1974 and was owned by broadcaster CHUM Limited. Another branch of the company was Much Productions who released the first three April Wine albums on the Aquarius label. In total MUCH records, Much Productions, Much International, Sweet Plum and Fleur released about 100 singles and albums, however some were licensing agreements with other record companies and not all original productions.
