About Sam & Dave
US soul vocal duo that consisted of and . Formed in 1961 in Miami, Florida, they only enjoyed minor success until the duo was coupled with the songwriting team of and in 1965. The best known hits from this period are probably "Hold On, I'm Coming" (1966) and "Soul Man" (1967).
Sam & Dave were renowned for their exciting stage performance. In the late 1970's and would be very much inspired by that stage performance when they did their act.
Sam & Dave disbanded in 1971, but reunited shortly several times during the 1970's and 1980's. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.

The absence of having gone through that essential Gospel and Blues training leaves contemporary vocalists and musicians ill or unequipped to project. Their urbane/rap/thig/technologically-influenced environments, exacerbated by their dysfunctional families, lack of cultural environments and lack of appreciation of history, leaves them vapid, stsr-struck, and result in celebrity- lifestyle worship. Hungry for overnight fame and fortune, without putting in the work, the dedication , or the practice. How many can read or write music? Or takeusic lessons? From Beuoncr to Legend to Black Eyed Peas, or name any rapper-they're churning out cookie-cutter garbage with self-hating misogynistic vulgar messages that reflect a loss of direction. The powers that be solicit, recruit these caricatures because they don't have our, or the artists' best interests at heart, only the profit motive. Its called racist capitalism, exploitation. Modern slavery. A minstrel show. The focus, since the late 70s, has shifted from southern culture to northern ghetto. And therein lies the difference. It is self-destructive, without any substance. Anybody can sample. We set the example. Not with technology, with actual talent. That's why it's called Soul Music.
