The Retreat - The Retreat

Review by Tom Larkin

The album The Retreat by Retreat is a harmonious blend of indie rock and alternative music. The band has created a sound that is both unique and refreshing, with each track showcasing their exceptional musicianship and songwriting skills.

The opening track, "Calm Before the Storm," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its haunting melody and introspective lyrics. The album continues with "Echoes," a catchy tune that showcases the band's ability to craft a memorable chorus.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Disappear," which features a beautiful acoustic guitar melody and heartfelt lyrics. The song builds to a powerful crescendo, with the band's instrumentation perfectly complementing the emotional vocals.

The album's title track, "The Retreat," is a slow-burning ballad that features a stunning vocal performance from the lead singer. The song is a testament to the band's ability to create a mood and atmosphere through their music.

I’m after a copy of this album if anyone can help me please
Listening to this over 20 years on and I'm taken back to Sunday nights at the Cooperage. The atmosphere was electric. It seemed like everyone was jumping. I probably enjoyed those gigs more than almost anything I've seen since.
When are you reforming lads??
Please reform :)
Remind me of the water boys, I was there in the cooperage and Kings head
23:10 , "gotta ball and chain around my leg , gotta ghost that haunts me from the foot of my bed , fear and tears they`re my only souvenirs , and nothing heals with the passing of my years , coz in my dreams I still hear those guns , and I can never put right all the wrong I have done , all the wrong I have done"............. what happens next ladies and gentlemen is a pub called the cooperage in Plymouth or somewhere in totnes that I can`t now remember the name of , a crazy mix of Newcastle brown ale spraying everywhere , maybe even a spliff or two ,dreadlocks and shaved heads ,men and women po-goeing in oxblood DM`s and sweating like a twat in a friendly brawl of elbows and stamped toes , massive smiles and memories that will last a lifetime spent with great friendships in youthfull bliss , thank you retreat , finding this on here has put a tear in my eye!!!
God I miss those days...
Gosh! Me on bass, anyone got a better copy, or stuff, this one has a buzz on it............
great band ...seen 'em live @ Ostend (Paulusfeesten) in the nineties ....reminded me of Levellers, Waterboys , Oysterband , ....great stuff !
Such fond memories of going to The Retreat gigs in The Kings Head & Cooperage Plymouth, early 90s !
I accidentally fell across the retreat in New Cross about the time this was released. Eventually wore the tape out :) Great album, great band.
Brilliant band - where are the other two albums? they did three apparently and then moved onto Richard James and the Redoubt in 2010, then what?

Just come across this after some searching.......somebody mentioned Retreat to me and I wondered if You Tube had caught up with this Album I used to love on cassette but had lost......after two listens it has all come flooding back.  Anyone know if it is available on CD? or if anyone from The Retreat is still in Music, they remind me of 3 daft monkeys who also hail from the same part of the world...
What a find! Can somebody stick Providence Street up as well please? I'd happily buy this on CD if there's one out there.
