Review by Steve Edwards

Echoes of Ellington is an impressive album that showcases the talents of Randy Brecker, Bill Evans, Tom Scott, and Robben Ford. This quartet of jazz musicians has come together to pay tribute to the great Duke Ellington, and they do so with a level of skill and artistry that is truly remarkable.

The album features a range of Ellington classics, including "Take the A Train," "Mood Indigo," and "In a Sentimental Mood," each one reimagined and reinterpreted by this talented group of musicians. The result is a collection of songs that are both faithful to the original compositions while also adding a fresh and contemporary twist.

Brecker's trumpet playing is particularly noteworthy, as he effortlessly navigates the complex melodies of Ellington's music with a level of precision and finesse that is truly impressive. Evans' saxophone playing is equally impressive, providing a rich and soulful sound that perfectly complements Brecker's trumpet.

Scott and Ford's contributions are also significant, with Scott's saxophone and clarinet work providing a smooth and silky texture to the music, while Ford's guitar playing adds a bluesy edge that gives the music a real sense of depth and complexity.
