Prolapse - Backsaturday

Review by Іра Чапрак

Prolapse's album Backsaturday is a unique and innovative piece of work. The band's experimental and avant-garde approach to their music is evident in every track. The album features a range of sounds and styles, from the haunting and eerie "TCR" to the upbeat and catchy "Deanshanger." The band's use of unconventional instruments, such as the trumpet and saxophone, adds to the album's eclectic feel. The lyrics are also thought-provoking and poetic, with themes of love, loss, and societal issues. Backsaturday is a bold and refreshing album that showcases Prolapse's artistic talent and creativity.

About Prolapse

The year 1993 might not have seemed an auspicious time for new initiatives in post- noise pop. A motley gaggle of archaeology students and practitioners of experimental drama might not have seemed the people for the job, and English sleaze-rock backwater Leicester was definitely not the place. Somehow, Prolapse made this kind of activity fun again. As unappealing as the prospect of droning guitar, grinding bass riffs and pounding drums garnished with the destruction of whatever discarded household appliances might be gleaned from the streets in the vicinity of the show sounds, Prolapse stands apart from the art bores by its liveliness, submerged humor and preference for driving rhythmic grooves over self-indulgent fretwank. The most arresting part of the sextet's performance (often unsettling even for the initiated) is the unpredictable and generally tempestuous interaction between the two vocalists: sensitive souls in the audience tremble as the huge, hairy Scot Mick Derrick attacks the diminutive Linda Steelyard verbally and physically yet it is generally the larger contender who takes away the more serious injuries.

love this beautiful band.
i love edgy style
Just stumbled across a 2019 Record Day copy of this. What a great surprise. I had this album (and this track!) on constant rotation in '95/'96.

I advise picking it up, a beautiful blue-ish vinyl color!
One of the best British groups of all time, I think. *The Italian Flag* towered over most other 90s albums. All their stuff is top notch though, *The Ghosts Of Dead Aeroplanes* a superb 'final' LP....unless they decide to get together and write another.
One of the best songs ever written.
They played this live last night in Dalston. Was amazing.
Going to see Mogwai in Glasgow and just discover that Proplapse will be in support : what a luck ;-) !!
po! are the best band from leicester ,but i fucking love prolapse!
hard ice.....!!!
Live in 2015!!!!!!
Fuck Kasabian. Prolapse are the best band to come out of Leicester.
Hurrah for a decent band from Leicester - there aren't many...

so good so good
Enter the mirror riff?
Probably one of my favourite Prolapse tunes - and from one of their best albums too. It's got an eerie, desolate quality about it - like broken transmissions being picked up across space.
Me gusta!
thanks for uploading this!! looked for this on YT for the longest time, and now here it is, finally.
