Nikolai Yakovlevich Myaskovsky - composer, teacher and music critic. People's Artist of USSR (1946), winner of five Stalin Prizes (1941, 1946 - twice, 1950, 1951 - posthumously).
Born: April 20 (8 O.S.), 1881, Modlin, Warsaw Governorate, Russian Empire (now Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, Poland).
Died: August 8, 1950, Moscow, USSR.
He is sometimes referred to as the "father of the Soviet symphony".
