Review by Nader Al Mallah

The album 1947 by Lu Watters is a delightful collection of traditional jazz music that takes the listener on a journey back in time. The album features Watters' band, the Yerba Buena Jazz Band, and showcases their unique blend of Dixieland, swing, and blues.

The album opens with the upbeat and lively "South," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. The band's tight arrangements and expert musicianship are on full display throughout the album, with standout tracks including "Papa Dip," "Buddy Bolden's Blues," and "San Francisco Shuffle."

Watters' trumpet playing is a highlight of the album, and his solos are inventive and full of energy. The other members of the band, including clarinetist Bob Helm and trombonist Turk Murphy, also shine in their respective roles.

The recording quality of the album is impressive considering it was originally recorded in 1947. The sound is clear and crisp, allowing the listener to fully appreciate the nuances of the music.
