Review by Jim
Divorce Series 1, the collaborative album by Four Tet and Hella, is a unique and experimental piece of work that showcases the talents of both artists. The album consists of two tracks, each over 20 minutes long, that are filled with intricate rhythms, complex melodies, and unexpected twists and turns.
The first track, "Madonna," begins with a pulsating beat that gradually builds in intensity, adding layers of synths, guitars, and drums to create a dense and dynamic sound. As the track progresses, the tempo shifts and the instrumentation changes, creating a sense of constant evolution and experimentation.
The second track, "Divorce," is more subdued and atmospheric, with haunting melodies and sparse instrumentation creating a sense of tension and melancholy. The track slowly builds in intensity, with Four Tet's signature glitchy beats and Hella's intricate guitar work adding layers of complexity and texture.
