Part 2 is calmer but also more experimental than part 1. It is almost like the parts left out from the first issue, they were needed to develop the concept and they are interesting to listen to and understand how Mu as a whole came to be. The tunes have a more tribal character and dig even deeper into the sources of the duo's music.In the CD age, both parts have been issued on one CD together, and that may be the best way to acquaint this record. It is not essential but an interesting component - and it is still pretty good.

I cant say i "get" either parts of mu. Id love to, and i love thinking about the project, and everything that influenced Cherry to make it. But i dont get it, its boring to me to listen to, just except for those last minutes. That medley, brings me close to tears.

Twenty-four years ago, I took a bus from Milwaukee to Chicago with a list in hand to the Jazz Mart with MU on it. Two years later, without ever being able to find MU ...anywhere ...I walked into my African-American Music Professor's office. He had over 700 CDs! Within minutes ...I came across MU. Unbelievable I remember thinking. I raced home. Popped the CD in. And I will always know the whole piece entitled MU with Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell is one of the more astounding pieces of music of the last century.
This is exellent music !
