DJ Hyperactive - Scuff

Review by Adams Korir

DJ Hyperactive's latest album, Scuff, is a testament to his mastery of techno. From start to finish, the album is a relentless assault on the senses, with pounding beats and hypnotic melodies that keep the listener hooked.

The opening track, "25 Hours," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its driving rhythm and eerie synth lines. As the album progresses, tracks like "Wide Open" and "Fusion" showcase DJ Hyperactive's ability to create complex, layered soundscapes that are both captivating and danceable.

One standout track is "Soul (Dub Mix)," which features a haunting vocal sample that is woven into a dense tapestry of beats and synths. The track builds to a fever pitch before dropping into a stripped-down groove that is impossible not to move to.

About DJ Hyperactive

Chicago-born and -bred DJ and producer Joseph Manumaleuna aka DJ Hyperactive needs little introduction to those versed in the history of techno. As one of Daft Punk's 'Teachers' and 'brother of the humble', according to Resident Advisor, his contributions to the underground continue to span generations. Honing his skills in the highly influential scene and sound of Chicago in the early '90s, DJ Hyperactive gained instant international recognition and has since gone on to play the most legendary and lauded events and venues over the last 20 years, such as Orbit/ Leeds, Liquid Room/ Tokyo, Love Parade/ Berlin, Shelter, Smart Bar, Primary/ Chicago, Interface/ Los Angeles, Movement/ Detroit, Output/ Brooklyn, Tresor/ Berlin, Berghain/ Berlin and the list doesnt stop there. Also over the course of his career, he has produced over 100 remixes and original tracks, including classics such as "Venus" on Missile, "Wide Open" on EC Records, "25 Hours" on Droid Recordings, "Music Box" on his own imprint and "Chicago" (on Records which he also ran, now defunct), plus releases on Truncate, Figure, Blank Code, Impact Mechanics, Nachstrom Schallplatten and CLR, to name a few. He returned to Chicago 2013 to reconnect with his family and musical roots. His story continues with more gigs and more studio productions, with the difference being the experience and perspective that only a true veteran can possess.
