David Shea - Satyricon

Review by Kendra Kelly

The album Satyricon by David Shea is a mesmerizing and haunting musical experience that takes the listener on a journey through the dark and mysterious realms of ancient Rome. With a mix of traditional instrumentation and electronic soundscapes, Shea creates an otherworldly atmosphere that is both eerie and captivating.

The album is inspired by the classic Roman novel "Satyricon" by Petronius, and Shea's music perfectly captures the decadence and debauchery of the story. From the eerie chanting of "Trimalchio's Feast" to the hypnotic rhythms of "The Priests of Cybele," each track on the album is a masterpiece of atmospheric sound design.

Shea's use of traditional instruments such as the shakuhachi flute and the koto adds an element of authenticity to the music, while the electronic elements give the songs a modern edge. The result is a unique and compelling sound that is both ancient and futuristic.
