Review by Eva McKnight

Danny Kaye's album "Hans Christian Andersen" is a delightful collection of songs inspired by the beloved Danish author's fairy tales. The album features Kaye's signature charm and wit, as he brings to life some of Andersen's most iconic stories through song.

Kaye's voice is both whimsical and powerful, perfectly capturing the spirit of Andersen's tales. The album opens with the classic "The Ugly Duckling," which Kaye sings with a heartfelt sincerity that is sure to tug at listeners' heartstrings.

Throughout the album, Kaye showcases his range as a performer, seamlessly transitioning from ballads like "Thumbelina" to more upbeat numbers like "The King's New Clothes." Each song is expertly crafted, with clever lyrics and catchy melodies that will have listeners singing along in no time.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Inchworm," a charming tune that Kaye delivers with a childlike wonder. Another highlight is "The Little Fiddle," a playful song that showcases Kaye's impressive vocal range.

Comments

I had this album as a kid. I loved it. Danny Kaye - my first love. ?
My mother took me to see this movie, at the Sunnyside Theater, when I was 4 years old! I'm pretty sure it my first visit to the movies!
I wasn't even born when this came out in 52', I was born in 54' and as a very little kid fell in love with this film and the music, little did I know then that I'd be living in Danmark one day, been here since 06' and I love it.
Amazing what you find on Youtube! ???
Wonderful Copenhagen for me...
The last song turned out to be "Ballin' the Jack" which was a popular song written in 1913 and has been recorded hundreds of times. (Wikipedia) A jack was an old name for a train. (also from Wikipedia)
"Anatole of Paris" from The Straw Hat Revue 1940.
"Popo the Puppet" from On the Riviera.
(Information found by a little quick Googling. Google. It's an amazing invention. YouTube really ought to try it sometime.)
(Seeing these incorrectly labeled as being from Hans Chrisyian Andersen, which they're not, elsewhere on YouTube too.)
This version of "No Two People" is really cute. ???
The one about going to the movies is "The Lobby Number" from Up in Arms.
(Knew I'd seen/heard it somewhere before.)
These songs are all still good but the last few are not from that musical, they are from other musicals that starred Danny Kaye.
The one with the puppet is from Lili or at least I think that's what it's from. Not sure what the last one after it was from. ?
THIS IS WHAT KEEP THE WORLD SO BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL IAM A GUITAR PLAYER AN SINGER SONGWRITER AN JUST RECORDED A MUSIC CD I AM A BLACK MAN BORN IN AMERICA BEDSTUY BROOKLYN NY EXMARINE PROUD TO BE A AMERICAN GLORY TO THE KING OF KING'S JESUS CHRIST HOLY HOLY POWER NAME AMEN AMEN AMEN ????????

Well, I sing Thumbelina to my granddaughter, Isabella, to say nothing, about her being like Thumberlina, petite and little , Granddad loves you , Isabella!!
One of the things that are attracting me the most about this film is the way they found to present Andersen's "The Little Mermaid". I heard somewhere that for this ballet sequence they used music by Franz Liszt; Would anyone here happen to know what specific pieces by Liszt did they use? Please, I am having here a very hard time looking for them all.
???? thanks for sharing darly ❤️ love and hugs to you and all who watch... Hans was one special guy... and Danny was an ideal choice for his part... love this film lol! Lovely memories ... thanks ??
Hans Christian Anderson a cobbler? Cobblers I say to that! Still, it works for the movie. :)
Channel 11 WPIX In NYC used to show Hans Christian Anderson usually on the Saturday Afternoon before Christmas back in the 1970's and 1980's.
My first record when I was about 4 years old.
21:56 this song was from Up in Arms. i had to go looking for it
Brilliant. Just brilliant and then the vessel with the pestle with the brew that is true became his next quest .... https://youtu.be/WzmnSyqv37A
THANK GOD WE HAD HUMAN BEINGS LIKE MR. DANNY KAYE
As a kid my sister was given an album with songs from Hans Christian Anderson. There were five us; we ALL loved that album and actually led to a big conflict when we grew up! I’ve tried to find that album. On the flip side there were songs about Christopher Robin. (AA Milne, I think) I sang all the songs to my own children as they grew up. I would so love to find that particular music
I loved this video still have it on vhs thanks for sharing this
I would love to sing these songs to children!
19:50 - the incomparable song that took on a life of its own outside the HCA movie, becoming an unofficial anthem of the city it refers to.
Loving the other songs from my favorite Danny Kaye Movies!!! Up In Arms The Secret Life of Walter Mitty....
