This Is Cinerama, the debut album by British indie pop band Cinerama, is an eclectic and ambitious collection of songs that showcases the band's talent for crafting lush, cinematic soundscapes. Led by former Wedding Present frontman David Gedge, Cinerama draws inspiration from classic film scores, chamber pop, and 1960s girl-group harmonies to create a sound that is both nostalgic and innovative.
The album's opening track, "Maniac", sets the tone with its soaring strings and driving beat, while "Quick, Before It Melts" and "Barefoot in the Park" showcase the band's gift for crafting catchy, melodic pop songs. "Health and Efficiency" and "Kerry Kerry" are more introspective and moody, with haunting vocals and atmospheric instrumentation.
Throughout the album, Cinerama's arrangements are rich and complex, incorporating a wide variety of instruments and textures. The band's use of strings, horns, and percussion adds depth and drama to the songs, while Gedge's lyrics explore themes of love, loss, and the human condition.
