Aaron Lewis - Sinner

Review by Hamdy Zaky

Sinner, the second solo album by Aaron Lewis, the American singer-songwriter, is a raw and emotional collection of country songs that showcases his powerful vocals and honest storytelling. The album features 11 tracks, including the hit single "That Ain't Country" and a duet with Willie Nelson, "Travelin' Soldier."

From the opening track, "Sinner," with its haunting guitar riffs and Lewis' soulful vocals, it's clear that this album is going to be a journey through the darker side of life. The lyrics are honest, introspective, and often painful, dealing with themes of regret, addiction, and heartbreak.

Despite the heavy subject matter, Sinner is an incredibly enjoyable listening experience, thanks in large part to Lewis' impressive vocal range and the skillful musicianship of his backing band. The songs are expertly crafted, with catchy melodies and memorable hooks that stay with you long after the album is over.

Comments

Stock verse forms and I IV V chords backed up by digital gloss and hired talent make this record of "American Values", "polite nostalgia" and fake workin' class posturing a whitewash of the objectionable things about this conservative (and indeed reactionary) singer. Rather than a legitimate country classic or essential modern release, the record sounds much like a country track sounds like a country track sounds like a country track.Honestly, I find it hard to hear how the ingredients couldn't have appeared on dozens of other genre records. If you loved Don Gibson or Patsy Cline and (sometimes) really liked Alan Jackson, George Strait, Clint Black etc, you'll find this stuff to be essentially an echo tending towards infinity, one that's never overtly exciting, direct or lyrically novel. Imagine an old Black Crowes ballad quantized to a metronomic beat with an adult rock audience in mind. Lewis' biggest hit seems to be his cowriting credit on the Jeffrey Steele, Ira Dean track Am I the Only One - not in this collection - and yerp the track is another polite musing that invokes folksy patriotism and nostalgia to guide America forwards backwardly. Guns, disinformation, self-appointed militants and insurrection conveniently don't appear to be a topic the conservative singer touches upon in his online commentary?
