Review by Wen. E. Scott

The Younger Generation's album, We Rap More Mellow Rappin All Over, is a classic example of old-school hip-hop at its finest. Released in 1982, this album showcases the group's smooth and laid-back style, with tracks that are both funky and soulful.

From the opening track, "We Rap More Mellow," the Younger Generation sets the tone for the rest of the album. The song's jazzy instrumentation and smooth rhymes make it an instant classic. Other standout tracks include "Rappin All Over," which features a catchy chorus and some impressive wordplay from the group's MCs.

One of the strengths of this album is its production. The beats are simple yet effective, with plenty of funky basslines and jazzy samples. The album also features some impressive scratching from the group's DJ, adding an extra layer of texture to the tracks.

About Younger Generation

The Younger Generation was a studio project of producer . On the first release "We Rap More Mellow" we can hear (without ). The Furious Five were not credited on the record instead the name The Younger Generation was used which led to the conclusion that The Younger Generation was an alias of the Furious Five. But on all other releases other MCs or singers were used still using the name The Younger Generation. The second release is credited to The & The Younger Generation and on later releases we again hear other MCs or singers. So we can say that the name Younger Generation was used by Terry Lewis to put out his projects that he has recorded with different artists. In a a 2002 interview, after he talked about The Furious Five's original lineup, was asked, "How did the record "We Rap More Mellow" come about, and why were you called the Younger Generation?" He responded, " produced it and put it out without our knowledge. We didn't sign contracts or anything.....he just threw the name Younger Generation on it."

Rrrrrrraaaaaa!!!!
This is so mufafukafukkin ace!
So this funky joint must have come out before Rappers delight?... Only reason being that it's not on the Sugar Hill label... I know its shaving things 'right down to the bone' of Hip Hop history ...but..

If it comes down to days and dates within weeks in 79 we all would love to know...
Did this record come out first or after or evening during..

Imagine if (hype-prophetically speaking) Sugar Hill Gang battling (for their lives) against The Furious Five ..

Live on stage...

Either way SugarHillGang would have got 'Furiously-Crushed' twice!

(they should have rapped about pizzas instead)

Vintage recording. The leaders of the greatest youth movement ever. Salute to these Pioneers. i'm Mr.J of the Gifted 4 ( Sounds of the mic & Temper ) 1984 / 85.
This is Hip Hop History right here!!! Bought this when it came out. I ALWAYS considered this to be the FIRST rap record. Why? It was all rap. Fatback's song was R&B with a little rap sprinkled through out the beat.
Rahim said they were never paid for this song in 1979. They were ripped off by the producer. He didn't even us their name on the label as you can see.

The furious five emcees will go down as five of the most under-rated in the history of what was then called “rap,” now referred to as hip-hop (courtesy of KEITH Cowboy.) Melly Mel is in my top ten emcees point blank!, (RIP Cowboy.)
I was born in 81, but I like this. I will never understand why Melle Mel is never mentioned when it comes to top emcee's. A child is born with no state of mind. Blind to the ways of mankind is one of the best lines ever.
So GOOD :)
I heard this version once back in the day and then it was gone and replaced with Superrappin. I like Rahiem’s verse better on this version “I am so fly for the ladies to see to all the fellas I’m a threat to society”
Thank you @nardwuar for bringing me here.
Back in the day this was the real b-boy shit Smurfs out Smurf Ossining New York
