Troy Shondell's album "This Time Girl After Girl" is a nostalgic collection of 1960s pop-rock tunes that will transport listeners back to the era of sock hops and jukeboxes. Shondell's smooth crooning voice is perfectly suited to the upbeat, danceable tracks on this record.
The album opens with the catchy title track "This Time Girl After Girl," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The song's upbeat tempo and catchy chorus are sure to get listeners tapping their feet and singing along. Other standout tracks include "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me," a soulful ballad that showcases Shondell's vocal range, and "Kissin' at the Drive-In," a playful ode to teenage romance.
I was 15 years old when I did this, going through my teenage music phase, and avidly learning to play the guitar. My grandfather Troy's mental state at the time was slowly deteriorating, and hoping it would please him to know that his grandson was continuing in his musical tradition, I recorded this solo over the musical break and sent it to him. From what I remember (more than ten years ago) he was touched and pleased.
He was always very loving and supportive of me, from an early age. E.g., a reply to one of the emails I sent of one of my guitar videos:
"Hey Julian,
You are not very good, you are great. I can't believe that I have a grandson that is as talented as you. I feel you have a great future in front of you. Keep up the great work, and never stop pickin'.
