The Tragically Hip, often referred to simply as The Hip, were a Canadian rock band from Kingston, Ontario, consisting of lead front man Gord Downie, guitarist Paul Langlois, guitarist Rob Baker (known as Bobby Baker until 1994), bassist Gord Sinclair, and drummer Johnny Fay. They released 13 studio albums, two live albums, one EP, and 54 singles over a 33-year career. Nine of their albums have reached No. 1 on the Canadian charts. They have received numerous Canadian music awards, including 16 Juno Awards. Following lead singer Gord Downie's diagnosis with terminal brain cancer in 2015, the band undertook a tour of Canada in support of their thirteenth album Man Machine Poem. The tour's final concert, which would ultimately be the band's last show, was held at the Rogers K-Rock Centre in Kingston on August 20, 2016, and broadcast globally by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a cross-platform television, radio and internet streaming special. Downie died on October 17, 2017. In July 2018, the band announced they were no longer active as a performing or recording entity following Downie's death.

If you own just one LP, and it happens to be Up to Here by The Tragically Hip, well, I'll take a wild guess and say it's your favorite. If there are ten records in your record collection, and all of them are by this band, I feel sorry for you. There are far better Canadian groups than this one. I understand this album may appeal to a certain segment of the population. Fine. Enjoy. Not surprisingly, Canada's R.E.M. (but without the hits and talent) never made it big in the USA.

I am at a "bush Party" in high school, Me and my buddies are completely smashed and singing along with the hip, Next thing you know, Some big strapping lads from the town over didn't take kindly to us. We kicked ass and it as awesome. Long live the hip. God rest our dearest Gordon.
