TSquare - Megalith

Review by BENY SALIM

Megalith, the latest album by Japanese jazz fusion band TSquare, is a true masterpiece that showcases the group's incredible musicianship and creativity. From the opening track "Megalith" to the closing track "Light in the Dark," the album takes listeners on a journey through a variety of musical styles, from smooth jazz to funk to rock.

The album's standout tracks include the upbeat and funky "Funky Gong," the smooth and soulful "Silent Storm," and the epic and cinematic "Megalith." Each track is masterfully crafted, with intricate instrumentation and complex arrangements that demonstrate the band's technical skill and attention to detail.

One of the album's strengths is its ability to balance complex instrumental sections with catchy melodies and hooks. This balance is particularly evident on tracks like "Whirlwind" and "Burning Blue," which feature soaring guitar solos and intricate keyboard lines that are both impressive and accessible.

Summary by BENY SALIM

Megalith is a must-listen for fans of jazz fusion and instrumental music. It is a testament to TSquare's talent and creativity, and a reminder of why they have been one of the most influential bands in the genre for over 40 years.

Comments

the title track, Megalith, is sensational, between power fusion cuts mixed with 80s soundtracks, fantastic solos (especially drums). The rest of the record unfortunately appears much more canonical and scholastic, with Latin winks of dubious taste, except in the third to last track when you return to polyrhythms and virtuous solos that reinvigorate the whole.
