Review by Mike Balles

Necropolis Luxus by Sol Invictus is a captivating and powerful album that showcases the band's unique blend of neofolk, post-punk, and darkwave. The album is a tribute to the city of London and its history, with each track exploring different aspects of the city's past and present.

The opening track, "The Last Man", sets the tone for the rest of the album with its haunting vocals and atmospheric instrumentation. The following tracks, such as "Necropolis" and "The Garden of Love", continue this trend, creating a dark and eerie atmosphere that is both beautiful and unsettling.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Old London Weeps", which features the haunting vocals of Eilish McCracken and a mesmerizing melody that is both melancholic and uplifting. Another highlight is "The Return", which features a driving rhythm and powerful vocals that make it one of the most energetic tracks on the album.

After playing in British punk band , post punk act and his own personal project , Tony Wakeford founded Sol Invictus in 1987, involving and shortly later of and . The music of Sol Invictus on the first recordings was a mixture of acoustic and electronic sounds, creating some epic and dramatic songs which stand against the "decadence" of the West and of modern society. This sound characterizes the first three albums, "Against The Modern World" (1988), "In The Jaws Of The Serpent" (1989) and "Lex Talionis" (1990). In 1991 Ian Read left the band to form , and Wakeford took the sound of Sol Invictus progressively more towards a dark folk approach with changing line-up, such as violinist and singer and instrumentist . Wakeford's recent lyrics tended away from anti-modernism towards more personal themes. Sol Invictus' own self-produced label was , then called and finally .

Sounds a bit like a Medieval/Gothic Folk version of Jethro Tull. Great band, great work as usual Prophecy!
Hail Sol Invictus
Tony Wakeford is a true genius!
just like Once Upon a Time, Necropolis is a great Comeback.
"...not a great voice...". - Never was. That's WHY we like it! It's real. This is no fckn Eurovision, right? Anyway, from the onset of Di6, of which monsieur Tony was a significant part, for at least 4 years ( the early Crisis years notwithstanding), it became quite clear that Wakeford's vocal stance and approach was focused on the expression of disgust, revolt, ennui and occasionally, vitriol humour towards the state to which it all came down in this western part of the globe, and elsewhere too. In that sense, he is unabatedly coherent. In a nutshell, and regarding his ex-cohorts, Dougla's voice has gelled through the decades and remains firm and mysterious. But if you ask me, and if you want glorious singing, then go back to Patrick Leagas, both in Di6 and 6
the voice isn't too good..
The Master is back!
Wow!!!
Brilliant! Tony Wakeford and Co is back!
