Simon Scott (b. 1971) is a British sound artist and multi-instrumentalist who is currently based in Cambridge, UK and drums for UK band Slowdive. Below Sea Level was Scotts debut album for 12k, released in May 2012 and it was rereleased in 2015 by UK label Touch (on their TOUCHLINE digital series). The aesthetics of active listening and the subjective distinction of compositional materials and sound timbres are predominant explorations in his work. His music is a fusion of digital signal manipulation, micro-melodies and minimalism combined with environmental sounds and organic acoustic textures. He is inspired by his interests in sound ecology, music technology, digital media, illustration, photography, composition and sound art. 'Floodlines', released on CD by TOUCH in 2016, was a live room recording from a gig on 31st January at London's Cafe Oto.
Since the late 1990s Scotts work has been featured in a variety of international films, sonic art exhibitions, dance productions and digital multi-media projects. He has toured worldwide since 1988 (he was the drummer for Slowdive between 1990 and 1994, who worked with Brian Eno on the Souvlaki album), and his track For Martha was included on the respected German label Kompakts Pop Ambient 2012 compilation series.
His music has been previously released on Morr Music, Miasmah, Slaapwel, Sonic Pieces, Secret Furry Hole, Ghostly International and other respected international recording labels. Scott has shared the stage, remixed and been remixed by Isan, Nils Frahm, Taylor Deupree, Klimek, Tim Hecker, Christopher Willits, Marcus Fisher, Lawrence English, The Caretaker, Sawako, Fourcolor, Ulrich Schnauss, Machinefabriek, Pinkcourtesyphone (Richard Chartier) and The Sight Below.
