Review by Nick Renshaw

The album Quintet In A Major For Piano And Strings Op 114 The Trout by Schubert Members Of The Vienna Octet With Walter Panhoffer is a masterpiece that showcases the brilliance of the composer and the performers. The album features five movements that are full of energy, melody, and emotion. The performers, including the pianist Walter Panhoffer, demonstrate their virtuosity and musicality in each movement.

The first movement, Allegro vivace, is a joyful and lively piece that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The second movement, Andante, is a beautiful and melancholic piece that showcases the strings' ability to convey emotion. The third movement, Scherzo, is a playful and energetic piece that is full of life.

The fourth movement, Theme and Variations, is the highlight of the album. It is based on Schubert's song "Die Forelle" (The Trout), which is transformed into a series of variations. The performers do an excellent job of bringing out the different moods and textures of each variation while maintaining the overall theme.
