Samson featuring Bruce Dickinson supported Iron Maiden on the "Killers" Tour in 1981 Members included Clive Burr (later with ), John McCoy (), (Dickinson), later with ), masked drummer Barry Graham Purkis alias , Nicky Moore, Dave 'Bucket' Colwell () Pete Jupp (), Merv Goldsworthy (). One of the forerunners of the 'New Wave Of British Heavy Metal'.

Before The Storm is a solid album that will appeal to fans of classic heavy metal. While it may not break any new ground, it is a well-executed collection of songs that will satisfy anyone looking for some headbanging fun.

After his stint with Samson, Dickinson left Samson and went with Iron Maiden, making the band one of the most popular Pop/Rock musical acts in the world, blazing fire and making spectacles with them and their shows..And the band's post-Dickinson albums? Obviously ignored. The immediate successor Before the Storm features veteran Nicky Moore doing vocals, his timbre being almost identical to that of future Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder. The music is simple and rocking, the vocals enormously rude and the riffs predictable and the songs worth of contemporary Kiss. Most of the other cuts are rather decent or passable, but definitely not memorable songs: in other words, despite a few highlights, the album remains mostly a choice for fans, instead of casual listeners.Highlights: "Red Skies", "Test of Time".
