Review by Rafael Sánchez

The album People Got To Be Free My World by Rascals is a great addition to any music lover's collection. The album has a mix of soul, rock, and pop, and the lyrics are meaningful and relevant. The Rascals have done an excellent job of creating a sound that is both upbeat and thought-provoking.

The album starts with the title track People Got To Be Free, which is a powerful song about the need for equality and freedom. The song features a catchy melody and strong vocals, making it a standout track on the album. Other notable tracks include My World, which has a more mellow sound, and A Ray of Hope, which features a unique blend of soul and rock.

The words couldn't be more true whenever 1968 topics arise. God, 54 years ago back in 1968 was just awfully tragic especially with Vietnam going on. Lose two of our leaders with MLK, and RFK within two months? OMG, as much as I loved the counterculture of 1968, it was also the worst year ever. Flower Power at the max. Hippies at love-ins.
Lyrics:

All the world over, so easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free
Listen, please listen, that’s the way it should be
Peace in the valley, people got to be free
(Ah, ah, yeah, ah, ah, yeah)

You should see, what a lovely, lovely world this would be
If everyone learned to live together, ah-a-a
It seems to me such an easy, easy thing this should be
Why can’t you and me learn to love one another
No, over now

All the world over, so easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free (wanna be free)
I can’t understand it, so simple to me (it is)
People everywhere just got to be free
(Ah, ah, yeah, ah, ah, yeah)

If there’s a man who is down and needs a helping hand
All it takes you to understand and to put him through, ah, ah
Seems to me, we got to solve it individually, ah, ah
And I’ll do unto you what you do to me, said ‘no’

There’ll be shoutin’ from the mountains on out to sea
(Out to the sea)
No two ways about it, people got to be free
(They got to be free)
Ask me my opinion, my opinion will be
(Ah-ha)
It’s a natural situation for a man to be free
(Ah, ah, yeah)

Get right on board now, huh, huh
Oh, yeah

Oh, what a feelin’s just come over me
Enough to move a mountain, make a blind man see (Need a-him free)
Everybody’s dancin’, come on, let’s go see
Peace in the valley, now they want to be free
(Oh, yeah)

Look!
See that train over there?
Now that’s the train of freedom
It’s about to ‘rrive any minute, now
You know it’s been a long, long overdue
Look out ‘cause it’s a-comin’ right on through
Ha, ha, get it, yeah
Izzy loves cool rock music ? ? ? Enjoy 1968.
I love the sound of this on 45. Thanks for posting
what a big hit this single was in 1968. I was a young 18 yr old DJ in those days 'spinning the hits' - including this one. Still a great song.
