Review by EMMANUEL OROBOSA JAMES

The Pia Beck Trio's album Get Happy is an energetic and joyful collection of jazz standards and original compositions. The trio, consisting of Pia Beck on piano, Len Skeat on bass, and Chris Dagley on drums, showcases their virtuosity and chemistry in every track.

The album opens with the upbeat and swinging "Get Happy," featuring Beck's playful piano solos and Dagley's dynamic drumming. The trio's rendition of "Lullaby of Birdland" is another highlight, with Skeat's melodic bass lines providing a solid foundation for Beck's improvisations.

The album also includes several original compositions by Beck, such as the catchy and bluesy "Pia's Blues" and the soulful "Happy Hour." These tracks demonstrate Beck's versatility as a composer and performer, and showcase the trio's ability to seamlessly blend different styles and genres.

About The Pia Beck Trio

Jazz trio formed by Pia Beck in 1949. During its existence, the trio was composed by many different talented musicians. A small selection: the drummers John Engels, Hans Dolman, Cees See, Martin Beekmans and Wally Bishop; the guitarists Carel de Vogel, Jan Blok and Rob Pauwels; and de bass players Fred Loggen, Dick van der Capellen, Eddie de Haas and Börge Ring. It is a song of the first recording of this trio (for Decca, in September, 1950) that was Pia Beck's first real hit: Pia's Boogie.
