The Pasadena Roof Orchestra - The Very Best

Review by Ashish Sharma

The Pasadena Roof Orchestra's album, The Very Best, is a delightful collection of classic jazz and swing tunes that transport listeners back to the golden age of big band music. With their impeccable musicianship and vintage sound, the orchestra delivers a polished and energetic performance that captures the essence of the era.

From the upbeat and playful "Puttin' on the Ritz" to the romantic and dreamy "Cheek to Cheek," each track on the album showcases the band's talent for capturing the spirit of the 1920s and '30s. The arrangements are tight and well-crafted, with each instrument shining through in its own right.

One of the standout tracks on the album is the orchestra's rendition of "Sing, Sing, Sing," which features a driving rhythm and tight horn section that will have listeners tapping their toes and swaying to the beat. The vocal performances on tracks like "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" and "The Lullaby of Broadway" are also top-notch, with the singers delivering smooth and sultry performances that add to the overall charm of the album.

Great music, smashing to hear and see!!!! (who's the singer, he's really cute?) ? ? ♥️ ?
This brings back so many memories for me as I am very lucky to say that my dad (Ken Hughes) was an original member through to 1975 when the ‘PRO’ turned professional.

At the time me and my sister were very young and he didn’t want to be so far away from his family for potentially months at a time, so he instead went semi pro and went on to join the ‘Rainbow Dance Orchestra’ whom he was with until he retired in 1990.

They were just having such a great time and the love of the music, they could never have dreamed that the band could ever have become as big it has today.

Ken Hughes sadly passed away in 2004 at the age of 80 but was very proud of his time and to have been part of the foundations of what the ‘PRO’ is today. ?
