MOP - First Family 4 Life

Review by Dr. Jenice Armstead

The album "First Family 4 Life" by MOP is a classic in the hip-hop genre. Released in 1998, it showcases the raw talent and energy of the Brooklyn-based duo. The album features hard-hitting beats, aggressive lyrics, and powerful delivery, which is a signature style of MOP.

The album opens with "Breakin the Rules," a track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. It features a catchy hook and a driving beat that will have listeners nodding their heads in agreement. The album also includes standout tracks like "Ante Up," "Cold as Ice," and "Face Off."

One of the strengths of the album is the chemistry between the two members of MOP, Billy Danze and Lil' Fame. They bounce off each other's energy, creating a dynamic that is both entertaining and engaging. The production on the album is also impressive, with contributions from DJ Premier, Laze E Laze, and others.

M.O.P. (short for Mash Out Posse) is an American hip-hop duo formed by rappers and . The duo's debut single, "How About Some Hardcore" became popular and led to the release of their first album "To The Death" in the spring of 1994. Two years later, they delivered "Firing Squad". Third record "First Family 4 Life" was released in March of 1998; "Warriorz" followed two years later. The success of "Warriorz" helped raise M.O.P.'s profile and garnered some mainstream radio attention. Label issues left the band adrift around 2002 until they were picked up by and appeared on 's The Blueprint: The Gift & the Curse. Although the band stayed active recording and making appearances on soundtracks, Roc-a-Fella did not release a full-length album from M.O.P and the band parted-ways with Roc-a-Fella in 2005. They then signed with Records and released the compilation "M.O.P. Salutes The St. Marxmen". M.O.P. next released "Ghetto Warfare" - recorded and shelved by Roc-a-Fella - in 2006. In 2008, the band released "The Legends Underground, Vol. 5" and announced they had ended their deal with G Unit Records. In 2009, M.O.P. released "The Foundation" on .

Summary by Dr. Jenice Armstead

"First Family 4 Life" is a must-have for fans of hip-hop. It's a classic album that still holds up today, and it's a testament to the talent of MOP. The album is a perfect example of the gritty, aggressive style that helped define the East Coast hip-hop sound in the late '90s.
