Comments

Wonderful, subtle bass-playing by Percy Heath - and he was the MJQ's enforcer when, aftter a few early gigs, promoters refused to pay the band's fee. A valuable side-man indeed..
It wasn't that Ornette wasn't "tonal." Unaccompanied melody lines can suggest harmonies. His melodies often are a major or minor triad broken up. But Ornette was definitely dispensing with those blocky, confining chords.
Love it ?
Magnifique morceau !!! Et quelle interprétation...
A tonal interpretation of a Free Jazz tune - I personally really dig it. That being said, I wonder how Ornette would have felt about this....
The allegdly more "classic oriented" jazz group playing the song of the allegedly more free oriented Ornette. This is it. This is why jazz is the best music ever!
A fitting tribute to one of the great jazz innovators.
Very interesting rendition! Gotta say I prefer that raw, painful feel of the original version from Shape of Jazz to Come. Milt's solo on this one is smokin' though!

Ich bin dein größter fan ❤❤❤❤❤❤???❤?I❤?❤?❤?❤?❤??? I❤you
First version I heard of this song when I was 14, my father's record. I then listened to the original version when I was maybe 18 and it was quite shock, a very good one though. I love both versions, it's one of my few favorite songs. Vinyl record is far away in Rome IT while I moved in NY. Thank you for uploading.
R.I.P Ornette Coleman
This is the first version i heard from that tune, exactly at 62'...I think this is one of the best jazz/chamber music played by MJQ and one of the best vibes solos by Milt Jackson !! Sounds unique !!
I first bought this as a Japanese pressing in Tokyo in about 1962. Heady times.

I miss these guys.
Ornette is a little hard to absorb. Still, very nice.
One of my all time favorite album covers. Loved this album as a kid and recently re-acquired it. Love Ornette's original too.
Ornette's version has that "spooky" horn. The only thing that's close to that is 1923's Okeh Records' Laughing Record. IMHO.
But what's the name of the beautiful woman?
This is harmonized in a tonal fashion. I think this has very little to do with what Ornette Coleman wanted to say.
thank u so much for sharing this. They make jazz sound so cool
