Review by Mohammad Imran Khan

Go Ahead John: Great Expectations is an album by Miles Davis that showcases his mastery of jazz fusion. Released in 1998, the album is a compilation of previously unreleased recordings from 1970-1971.

The album features a range of talented musicians, including saxophonist Wayne Shorter, keyboardist Chick Corea, and drummer Jack DeJohnette. The tracks are a mix of original compositions and covers of popular songs, such as "Honky Tonk" by Bill Doggett.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Go Ahead John," which features Davis on trumpet and electric piano. The song is a slow burn that gradually builds in intensity, with Davis' trumpet leading the charge.

I became this theme and lp large later after know the Stooges "Fun House". And my conclussion is that the trumpet phrases, bassline, guitar staccatos and riffs, moods, instro trama and spirit of Davis group was a hard influence of Asheton's brothers, Alexander 'acid' tenor and Iggy Pop to make their 1970 hard rock geme, and melt it acidly with 'white jazz'. This Davis cosmic tune is the matrix of "Down on the streets
If the Peter Gunn theme had a child, here it is....

I think it's one of his..no wait, his best track, from this time ?
To me, It's his best from the 70's.
Electric Miles ... The best music so many people haven't heard.
I may have tripped to this back in the day...
Bass – Ron Carter
Bass [Fender] – Harvey Brooks
Bass Clarinet – Bennie Maupin
Drums – Billy Cobham
Electric Guitar – John McLaughlin
Electric Piano – Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock
Percussion – Airto Moreira
Sitar [Electric], Tambura – Bihari Sharma, Khalil Balakrishna
Soprano Saxophone – Steve Grossman
Trumpet – Miles Davis
An awesome and very underrated record.
this was my holy grail.. I've found you, now we can be together forever.
love miles love how 70s music was creating and exploring new boundaries p funk, hendrix, Herbie, Roy Ayers, James brown, crusaders, Ohio players, earth wind and fire and everybody else was exploring new directions
that pulsing bass line always makes my hairs stand. one for the jazz fusion canon
Words are cheap. Even Cats don't use them. History to this Day regards the highest esteem be give to the Poet. The Musician , the Doctor and the Philosopher. the Vitruvian Man within us all. Hey!
"That woman is crazy!
She's a mistress of a man who's crazy too"
I can tell you immediately that this album has been remixed since the LP was released. One of the things I notice is the increased separation. It dissects the sound and pulls it away from the totality of the direction the music takes. Try a mono setting to hear the difference.
The mighty Mahavishnu John McLaughlin on guitar on this phenomenal recording session. "Go ahead John!"
A lot of critics hated "Big Fun" when it first came out but I was smitten from the start-there are some amazing musicians appearing on this album-a who's who of early electric fusion. Even though the album was assembled from outages and rejects from "On The Corner" "Bitches Brew" etc it works for me-an incredibly influential album.
Great stuff :o)
Sounds so... dangerous!
Uau.. This sounds new..after all
This Is The Man !
Miles still running the voodoo down..fucking brilliant.
What can one say... does excellent say enough... I think it does... Nice upload!

666 devils music, spiritual music, u understand? :D
This was probably the first Miles Davis LP I bought back around '76. It was released a little late, but Miles was releasing so much stuff back then it was hard to keep up him. It is a good'un though.
always a favorite --- the "Sin City" soundtrack reminds me of this
