Review by Shawn Vuong

Symphonic Dances From West Side Story Three Pieces For Blues Band And Orchestra is a masterpiece of music composed by Leonard Bernstein, William Russo, and performed by the SiegelSchwall Band, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, and Seiji Ozawa. The album is a fusion of classical music and blues, creating a unique and mesmerizing sound that is both powerful and emotional.

The album features three distinct pieces that showcase the talent of the composers and musicians. The first piece, Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, is a reimagining of Bernstein's original score for the Broadway musical. The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra delivers a stunning performance, bringing the music to life with their powerful sound.

The second piece, "Blues Theme," is a soulful and bluesy composition by William Russo. The SiegelSchwall Band delivers a captivating performance, with their smooth and sultry sound perfectly complementing the orchestral backing.

The final piece, "Three Pieces for Blues Band and Orchestra," is a collaboration between Bernstein and Russo. The result is a stunning fusion of classical and blues music, with the SiegelSchwall Band and San Francisco Symphony Orchestra working together seamlessly to deliver an unforgettable performance.

So glad to find this on youtube! I loved this music decades ago and dang near wore out my record of it. At Columbia College (Chicago) back in the early 70's, I had William Russo for -- get this -- Counterpoint class. Oh, how I wish I could get my hands on recordings of some of his music from performances at Columbia -- like "Love's Sweet Song" -- fantastic, gorgeous!
I bought this LP about 45 years ago in Switzerland. It was one of my favorite and I played it over and over. Great to hear it again, still give me all the emotions.
Para mí persona , lo mejor de nuestra música en todo el orbe...inspirador...
Magnífico! Si existiera el video...Ah
Really interesting. I'm delving into blues and jazz. It's so strange to hear this combination, where I've kind of assumed that the 'correct' blending of blues and orchestral is the jazz voicings of Duke Ellington etc. i.e. the swinging big bands, expanded to symphonies.
Saw Ozowa conduct this on PBS with the Boston Pops when I was a kid. The Hendrix of blues harp.
Thanks Tonnes for the Upload! I've loved this album for forty years, and so wonderful to find it again! It came at me at Exactly the right time and made short work of my college years---Nothing like a little Russo to get the little grey cells working again! cheers
ou yes, i listen it when i was 15 and i have the lp........, wonderfull music....
Many thanks for converting this this LP in numeric format !!!
The third movement was DGG's first 45.
wow!!! sin palabras..!Mil GRACIAS por compartir esta Obra.saludos! desde guatemala
My most favorite part starts at 48:25 and then intensifies.
The incredible thing about this album is that it was a commercial flop. Equally disdained by the classical music lovers and the rockers. Ozawa's daredevil attitude was severely punished. I loved him for it. I lost the original vinyl, now almost impossible to acquire, in a house fire. A few years back found it on the web in digital form. I think it is one of the best creations mixing totally different disciplines. Kudos to both sides!!!
Still playing like it did 40 years ago ? https://youtu.be/GHW_x99aZQM
Fantastic William Russo. I always listened him at 17een years old and now, I'm 30 years older than that period, and I love him yet a lot! Thank you for sharing
Thought I had Alzheimer's disease until I realized this clown had put a totally different part of an album before and after the half of the album pictured oh well I'm 61 welcome to the internet
Saw this concert when I was in college; the Siegel-Schwall Band with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Loved seeing many of the orchestra's musicians tapping their toes to the beat.
I have been searching for the 3rd movement to street music for close to 25 years since I heard it on NPR. I cannot believe that I finally found it! It is better than I remember - thank you so much for uploading this masterpiece
Wonderful!
