Review by Jonathan Malm

Leo Kottke's album A Shout Toward Noon is a masterpiece of acoustic guitar music. The album features 11 tracks that showcase Kottke's exceptional fingerpicking skills and unique musical style. The album offers a mix of original compositions and covers of classic tunes, all played with Kottke's signature virtuosity and precision.

The album opens with "William Powell," a lively tune that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Kottke's playing is intricate and complex, yet effortless and fluid. The album also features some beautiful ballads, such as "Loudon" and "Mona Ray," which showcase Kottke's ability to evoke emotion through his playing.

One of the standout tracks on the album is Kottke's cover of the Beatles' "Eight Miles High." Kottke's version is a stunning instrumental interpretation of the classic tune, with his intricate fingerpicking adding a new dimension to the song.

So beautiful. Simple. Touches my heart. Thank you Leo.
Reminds me of my Aunt staring out at the lake she lived on.....goes on forever...remember
Oh, now I get it!
Love me some Leo
Perle musicale je l’écoute depuis longtemps Merci de faire connaitre thanks for posting
So lovely
This vid is post recovery from his injuries. Notice how his position is rather formal? Saw him in Tucson back in the mid seventies, when he still used finger picks and sat on a high stool with his right ankle up on his left knee. I was always amazed that he didn't fall off. Back then his playing was VERY physical. And fast. And absolutely amazing!
going by the picture there as well as the tune, makes me think of some water fowl like a loon or something...but I like it.
Went to high school with Richard G in the 70's. Leo Kotke was one of his idols, but Richard has become quite the musician himself...
i have always this amazing album thanks for posting
He's recorded some great stuff. Certainly glad you enjoyed, thank you! :)
smooth and peaceful...thanks.
yes, wonderful guitarist... thank you, :)
@geturledout Thank you for that. Leo, what a master, but he doesn't like his fellow motorists though, referring to them with naughty words, and sign language ! lol.
@FakeSidewalks If i find the tape i'll upload it, but it's currently hiding it seems. Haven't heard Garrison for a while, though i've always enjoyed him. Re Leo he likes tuning down a half step as you probably realise. Sure glad you enjoyed - thanks!
its played in DADF#AD
favolosa delicata eterea bravissimo leo kottke
@FakeSidewalks I'm really not sure, don't have the sheet music, but Little Beaver from memory was certainly in open D. Once was able to play it, years ago. He played Little Beaver on A Prairie Home Companion when the cd was released - you got to hear it ! I've got it on tape, see if i can find and upload it - magic !!
That's interesting - thanks!!
@manfreadstraw I absolutely love Prairie Home Companion! I grew up listening to Garrison Keillor. Please do.

And yes, I figured it all out a few weeks ago. If you want sheet music or tabs, I can definitely write some for you (or anybody else who is interested).
@DJustice91 hey thanks, appreciate it ! always loved Leo.
Is this generally performed in open D#? It's a little unusual. Incredibly pretty when in such a low register (the harmonics sound so full!), but unusual.
That's of course composer and not composter.
