- Self titled LP “Life’s About Juice” from Los Angeles California MC/Producer L A J an acronym for L.ife’s A.bout J.uice. The 13 track hard hitting LP is Los Angeles full circle, politics of Street Life and everything in between.
- A product of Low Rider parents (Costa Rican & Chicano), L A J grew up on a high dose of soul music; everything from Isaac Hayes to the Isley’s. This music became the back drop of his surroundings… his sound track. As a producer, L A J pulls from his roots…. a gritty version of pocket soul; heavy bass lines, keys, horns, guitars and of course the punches of drums.
- L A J and his production partner D. Stress formed the Cakemakers in 2006. “We want to bring back live instruments, the feeling of being somewhere you may have never been”. The album also has production by Scoop De Ville, King Scratch (Original member of N.W.A.), The Grizzleys N.Y.C and the German Connection.
- As a MC, L A J has been writing and performing not only in the States, but all over Europe. He also fronted the Los Angeles based band Purple Kush; who proved to be a bit too much for Hollywood. Purple Kush was called the next best thing to Rage Against the Machine. LA weekly compared Purple Kush to “discovering a high school pitcher in Nebraska throwing 100 mph fast balls.”
- Seeing the window for his band start to close and hearing a few too many times that he was too Rap for Rock. L A J started to ink his life long experiences and at the same time put his perception over the perfect beat. The Cakemakers could have produced the entire record, but he wanted the album to flow. He wanted to “hear the differences.” “I think the producers all brought something to the table that was different enough, but still in the pocket for the project.” The album was mixed and co-produced by the Bobby Brooks (Rick James, Teena Marie, Snoop Dogg and many others).
- L A J has also co-formed GEM Entertainment Group which includes music production, management, merchandising and event coordinating/production.
