June Winters with Gene Lowell - Aesops Fables

Review by Satrya

June Winters and Gene Lowell's album Aesop's Fables is a delightful collection of songs that retell some of the most beloved fables from the ancient Greek storyteller Aesop. With Winters' soulful vocals and Lowell's skillful guitar playing, the album transports listeners to a world of talking animals and moral lessons.

The album opens with "The Ant and the Grasshopper," a jaunty tune that tells the story of a hardworking ant and a lazy grasshopper. Winters' voice is full of warmth and humor as she sings the lines, "The ant worked all summer, while the grasshopper played / When winter came, the ant had food, the grasshopper had none to trade."

Other standout tracks include "The Tortoise and the Hare," which features Lowell's intricate fingerpicking and Winters' soulful delivery of the classic tale of slow and steady winning the race. "The Fox and the Grapes" is a bluesy number that tells the story of a fox who can't reach a bunch of grapes and convinces himself he doesn't want them anyway.
