Review by Gerald Crawford

John Lennon's 31st Birthday Party is an album that captures the essence of John Lennon's music and personality. The album features a live recording of John Lennon's birthday party, which took place on October 9, 1971, at the Fillmore East in New York City. The performance includes Lennon's band, the Plastic Ono Band, as well as a number of guest musicians, such as Yoko Ono, George Harrison, and Eric Clapton.

The album is a testament to Lennon's musical talent and his ability to bring people together. The songs are raw, emotional, and powerful, reflecting Lennon's personal struggles and his commitment to social justice. The opening track, "It's So Hard," sets the tone for the album, with its driving rhythm and heartfelt lyrics.

The album also includes a number of covers, such as "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Money (That's What I Want)," which showcase Lennon's ability to put his own spin on classic songs. The highlight of the album is undoubtedly the performance of "Imagine," which Lennon introduces as a "song for peace." The audience sings along, creating a powerful moment of unity and hope.
