The Essential John Fahey is a compilation album that showcases the unique talent of the American acoustic guitarist and composer, John Fahey. Released in 2006, the album features 22 tracks that span his entire career, from the early 1960s to the late 1990s.
The album is a great introduction to Fahey's work for those who are new to his music. The songs are arranged in chronological order, which allows the listener to hear the evolution of his style over the years. From his early folk-blues recordings to his more experimental pieces, the album offers a comprehensive overview of his work.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "Sunflower River Blues," which is one of Fahey's most famous compositions. The song is a beautiful example of his fingerpicking style, and it showcases his ability to blend traditional blues with more avant-garde elements.
Another highlight of the album is "Red Pony," a haunting instrumental piece that features Fahey's intricate guitar work and his talent for creating a sense of atmosphere and mood.

but does anyone know where the video is for this song? i remember having it saved in 2014 on YT. weird sepia film footage with double exposures. 9 mins long. absolutely incredible.
I heard this on long ago, when I was young, on an old valve radio, listening to The John Peel radio show late at night and it has been in my mind ever since, only just found this again today!
the intro and outro to "dance of the inhabitants of the invisible city" were played by jay ferguson, mark and matt andes; otherwise known as members of the fabulous psychedelic L.A. band, SPIRIT.
