Hank Williams - Only Mothers Best

Review by Melissa Gill

Only Mothers Best, the album by Hank Williams, is a timeless classic that showcases the country singer's talents and his ability to connect with his audience on a personal level. The album is a compilation of some of Williams' most famous hits, including "Hey Good Lookin'" and "Your Cheatin' Heart", as well as lesser-known tracks that demonstrate his versatility as a musician.

Williams' signature twang and heartfelt lyrics are front and center on each track, making it easy for listeners to get lost in the emotion of the music. Whether he's singing about love, loss, or heartbreak, Williams' voice is able to convey a range of emotions that is both relatable and moving.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", which is widely considered to be one of Williams' greatest songs. The track is a beautiful ballad that captures the loneliness and despair of a broken heart in a way that only Williams could.

Funny, Nashville must know that everything that Hank did is better than anything that Nashville does today.

Damn .....
OBAMA!!!
My God what a voice and what a song .he was surely missed .
Carl Smith was June Carter's first husband. Hank was stuck on the youngest Carter sister, Anita, but wore out his welcome with the family due to his violent, drunken, erratic behavior.
The show was broadcast on Nashville's WSM every morning from 7:15 to 7:30, in late 1950-51. Williams enjoyed it, and even wrote a jingle for the product (heard here). The show was recorded, so transcribed episodes could be aired when Hank was on the road, maintaining his grueling, destructive tour schedule. And, when he was unable to perform (Williams was a horrible, self-destructive alcoholic), recorded episodes could be aired. These broadcasts were about to be thrown out; fortunately, they were preserved.
Hank could get the show in before he got drunk for the day; the early time slot suited him.
It is impossible to overestimate the importance of radio to country stardom. It can be argued that Williams was at his best in front of a radio microphone.
ANOTHER BROWN EYED MAN!
These were recorded in 1951.
