Review by Christopher Gillespie

El Increible Jimmy Smith's album "Monstruo" is a true masterpiece of Latin jazz. The album is a fusion of traditional jazz and Latin rhythms, creating a unique and captivating sound that is sure to delight fans of both genres. The album features a range of instruments, including horns, percussion, and piano, all of which are expertly played by the talented musicians on the album.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "El Gato," which features a lively and energetic rhythm that is sure to get listeners moving. The track is driven by a pulsing bassline and features some impressive horn solos that really showcase the musicians' skills.

Another highlight of the album is "Monstruo," the title track. This track is a slower, more introspective piece that features some beautiful piano playing and a haunting melody that sticks with you long after the song is over.

Comments

Bought this album at Easter 1966. Several standout tracks, including this one.
:)) ..Ooyeeh :)))
Me encanta!!!
Brooklyn's own Grady Tate on drums, arguably the best jazz drummer ever.
An easy ride for Jimmy, who usually plays at a much higher and more technically challenging level, but a nice combination of improv, swinging, nostalgia, and fun!
Never heard this before ?
I had this album back when people owned records, and I loved it as I love everything Jimmy Smith does -- the absolute master of the B3!
I love that 60's drum sound.
That was swinging!  Love it.
I had this LP before we traded records in for CDs. I absolutely loved it.
Haven't heard this in years, although I have the vinyl somewhere. One of his finest tracks, I think.
Nice thank you from Earl
I want to thank everyone who contributed songs from"The Monster"album. I had it as a young boy, and I love literally the whole album, as well as all of Jimmy Smith's work. THANKS! !!!!!!!!
Fabulosos recuerdos.
Gracias y un saludo
Elbikerable,

I was only 17 when "Monster" was released back in '65, but this album stayed on my stereo constantly at that time. And I wore the grooves out on THIS track!

For some reason, just this evening (after MANY years --- the last time I heard it was on vinyl), the melody of the song came back to me.

Thank you for posting this joint, my friend --- many great memories.
