About Eija Kantola

Born March 6, 1966 in Pori, Finland. A Finnish singer. Started touring at the age of 14. Started her recording career in 1988 with the stage name Eijariitta. Four years later she changed it to Eija Kantola (she had to litigate for that). In 1992 she was crowned the 6th "Tango Queen" when winning the annual Finnish tango competition and festival "Tangomarkkinat". In 1994 she won the Finnish song contest ''Syksyn Sävel'' with the song ''Yön hiljaisuus''. She also has the education of a nurse.

The double-CD compilations are usually containing too many misses, this same is with Eija Kantola's "Parhaat" which includes "40 hits" although not all of them are even real hits.She is one of the artists I enjoyed when I was very young. He has released amazing songs in the 90's and even later but this compilation is mostly about the hits of the 90's because it was released in 2001.The first CD is very good (or the first 20 songs). Actually it is excellent. "Tanssi, poika tanssi", "Ei kauniimpaa", "Kahden rytmi", "Yossa sielujen", "Yon kuningatar", "Oi Valentino", and "Rakkauden kirja" are some of my favorite songs from her. Even the least good songs "Matka paattya ei saa", "Yo kuuntelee", and "Valoon pain" are perhaps mediocre but not bad.The second CD is not reaching the quality of the first. I like "Sata suudelmaa", "Ei meita estaa nyt voi", "Kylma, kuuma ja kaunis", "Kuin joutsenlaulu", "Juanita ja Mario", "Aiti", and "Yon kirjaisuus" very much but there are songs I would like to leave out - "Tuuleen", "Jaatyneet kyyneleet", "Romantiikan raunioilla", "Epavireiset sydamet", "Hiljaisuus", and "Sua pyydan". I even like "Hei pojat" (which is a Finnish version of "Day Tripper", originally by The Beatles) more than those songs.They didn't put here "Aha aha" and "Kay luonain eilinen" which would have been very good for this compilation. Well, this compilation has almost all of her best songs she had released back then in 2001.
