Review by Barry Westman

The Eddie Costa Quintet's self-titled album is a true masterpiece of jazz music. The band's leader, Eddie Costa, showcases his incredible talent on the piano and vibraphone, while the other members of the quintet provide exceptional support on saxophone, trumpet, bass, and drums.

The album features a mix of original compositions and jazz standards, all of which are performed with precision and soul. The tracks range from upbeat and energetic to slow and introspective, providing a diverse listening experience for jazz enthusiasts.

One standout track is "Lullaby of Birdland," which features Costa's impeccable piano playing and the smooth saxophone of Phil Woods. The quintet's rendition of "Autumn Leaves" is also noteworthy, with Costa's vibraphone taking center stage and the rest of the band providing a beautiful backdrop.

Comments

Eddie joue egalement du vibraphone en rerecording comme sur "I Didn't know what time it was" delicate ballade.
I need to get this album. I am deeply influenced by any, every thing Bill Evans recorded, and Eddie Costa is one hip vibes player. Such a great combination. This is beautifully recorded too: Costa's low notes ring clear and true, Evans piano is warm and larger than life,  the drummer's sizzle cymbal shimmers under it all (who IS that? Mel Lewis maybe?). Great recording that symbolizes that amazing period when jazz was maturing into a whole other thing.
Thanks for share...excellent ...
It's interesting that many Bill Evans fans are not aware of this recording. This was about the time that Bill's style was really beginning to gel. There is some very nice playing from both Bill and Eddie on this recording. I wish the two had been able to do more things together.
