Donovan - Colours

Review by Ian Forrester

Donovan's album Colours is a masterful collection of psychedelic folk tunes that showcase the singer-songwriter's unique style and poetic sensibility. Released in 1965, the album was a commercial and critical success, cementing Donovan's place as one of the leading figures of the British folk scene.

The album opens with the title track, a whimsical and dreamlike song that sets the tone for the rest of the record. Donovan's voice, which is at once soft and powerful, floats over a gentle acoustic guitar melody, creating a sense of wonder and nostalgia.

Other standout tracks on the album include "Catch the Wind," a romantic ballad that features Donovan's trademark fingerpicking style, and "Turquoise," a haunting and mystical song that explores themes of spirituality and transformation.

Throughout the album, Donovan's lyrics are filled with vivid imagery and poetic language, drawing inspiration from nature, mythology, and the counterculture of the 1960s. His music is both introspective and universal, capturing the spirit of a generation that was searching for new ways of thinking and living.
