About Dirk Freymuth, Laura MacKenzie

Dr. Dirk Freymuth is a producer, music historian, arranger, lutenist and guitarist. He also plays viola da gamba. Freymuth was born in Frankfurt, Germany but was raised in Los Angeles. He studied at the University of Southern California, earning a Bachelors degree in Jazz Guitar, a Masters in the performance of Renaissance and Baroque music and a Doctoral degree in Early Music Performance. Freymuth moved to Dublin in 1990 to join the Baroque Orchestra of Ireland. He developed a strong interest in Irish traditional music during this time. From 1991 through 1994 he lived in London and toured with the Renaissance ensemble . In 1994 Freymuth moved to Minneapolis. He recorded and produced albums for from 1995 until 2011. Since February, 2011 he is a Professor of Audio Production and Music History at Western Oregon University.
