The sheer genius of his harmonizing with himself made me fall in love from the first time I heard it. My favorite artist of any and all kinds. Ever. Period
This is such an uplifting jam it's a sin they didn't just do it for five minutes. It's like half a song. One thing overlooked about Bowie is what a great singer he was. Saw him in 1990 on the Sound and Vision tour (tour after the moribund Glass Spider tour) where he just did all of his hits and there wasn't a note wrong. Or strain. Or anything. Was like you were in the studio with him. He tripped onstage, caught himself, and with absolute cool aplomb said "Major Tom trips over the microphone stand." Roar from the crowd then he just belted out something pitch perfect.
Brilliant song from a brilliant artist! Bowie had such a staggering number of brilliant songs that it is really an impossible task to pick "the best," but this song (and IMO "Sorrow") are right up there with his most accomplished.
